IHEU member organization Humanist Society of Scotland has announced its autumn conference on the theme of education: Secular schooling – the way ahead. The conference will be held in Kingussie, between Perth and Inverness, Scotland, on 27-29 October 2006. Speakers will include IHEU President Sonja Eggerickx and topics will include campaigning for a secular state, adult Humanist education, school visiting, NHS spiritual care, coming of age ceremonies and what is Humanism. Enjoy the wonderful autumn colours and highland scenery as you travel to Kingussie in Invernessshire by bus, train or car on Friday 27th, arriving at the 4 star Duke of Gordon Hotel in the centre of this attractive Highland village. After dinner there will be an informal talk on the history of Kingussie.
After a full Scottish breakfast on Saturday, there will be a stimulating workshop and then a little time to explore Kingussie. For lunch it will be soup & sandwiches before the keynote speaker. More workshops follow and a Forum will round off the afternoon. At 7pm, delegates will be piped into the dining room for a five course dinner, followed by (not too loud) live music and (?) dancing.
On Sunday morning, ther will be a talk on the teaching philosophy in primary schools project. After lunch there will be optional excursions to the Highland Folk Museum and Highland Wildlife Park, returning for tea and more workshops. Following dinner, there will be a team quiz. Delegates return home (or continue a highland holiday) after breakfast on Monday 30th.
