IHEU and NGOs press for UN action on Darfur

In collaboration with more than 40 other NGOs, particularly the Association for World Education, IHEU has been pressing the UN Human Rights Council to take urgent action on Darfur.

IHEU has co-authored or supported three statements to the Council: the texts are included here. IHEU and 43 other NGOs have also sent a letter to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Louise Arbour.

  1. A written statement to the UN Council for Human Rights, appealing for the use of the Genocide Convention to stop crimes in Darfur (5 January 2006);
  2. A letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (23 May 2006);
  3. A statement delivered at the UN Sub-Commission on Human Rights, highlighting violations of human rights in Darfur (14 August 2006);
  4. Oral questions to the Special Rapporteur to the UN Human Rights Council on racism in Darfur (18 September 2006).
