The 17th World Humanist Congress will be held in Washington, DC, USA on 5-8 June 2008.

IHEU organizes the World Humanist Congress every three years. The 16th Congress was held in Paris, France in July 2005. The program is being finalised: the theme topic will relate to the international dimension of Humanist activities, with focus on the campaigns of IHEU and its member organizations. The Congress will include plenary sessions, parallel sessions, and workshops.

Several other meetings will be held alongside or before or after the Congress: the 2008 IHEU General Assembly; meetings of the American Humanist Association, local organizer of the Congress; meetings of the International Humanist Celebrant and of the Humanist Society; a conference of IHEYO; a meeting of the Comité International de Liaison des Athées et des Libres Penseurs.

In addition, several visits in Washington are planned. The first full announcement and invitation to register for the Congress is expected to be published here in summer 2007.
