SEVENTH WORLD ATHEIST CONFRERENCE, JANUARY 5-7, 2009, at Vijayawada, INDIA.
Atheist Centre, India cordially invites you to the SEVENTH WORLD ATHEIST CONFERENCE scheduled to be held at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, INDIA, for three days (Monday through Wednesday), on 5th, 6th and 7th January, 2009.
The theme of the Conference is : “MARCH OF ATHEISM”. Atheists, humanists, rationalists, freethinkers, secularists, skeptics and social change workers from various walks of life will participate in this important international conference. As you know the First World Atheist Conference was held in 1972 under the initiative of Gora, founder of Atheist Centre. The Second in 1980, the Third in 1983, the Fourth in 1996, the Fifth in 2005 and the Sixth in 2007 were held.
The World Conferences are the rallying point for atheists, humanists, rationalists, secularists and champions of social change to meet and discuss matters common concern. With the spread of science and scientific outlook, as well as new awakening among people, the whole world is moving steadily towards a post religious society. However, it is a matter of grave concern that fundamentalism and fanaticism are growing to strengthen religion and obscurantism. In spite of the hurdles, the march of atheism is quite significant. It is the time that all progressive forces to stand united and proceed further with grim determination. Atheism, humanism and rationalism are a positive way of life and they are growing as an alternative to religion.
The World Conference is organized by Atheist Centre, which is a social change institution founded in 1940, by Gora (1912-1975) Saraswathi Gora (1912-2006). We are happy to mention that Mr. Levi Fragell, former President of the International Humanist and Ethical Union and former Secretary General of the Norwegian Humanist Association, will preside the inaugural function of the Conference. Eminent atheist and scientist and the founder Director of the CCMB (Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology) and former Vice-Chairman of the National Knowledge Commission of Government of India, will be a distinguished guest. Prominent people from various walks of life will participate and share their valuable thoughts. In view of the significance of the conference, we urge you to come and share your valuable thoughts in the Conference and show your solidarity with the cause.
We seek your cooperation and support to make the Conference a great success. In case you find it difficult to participate and speak in the Conference due to other engagements, please encourage others from your organization to come and join the deliberations. Atheist Centre is completely dependent on public support and cooperation in all its endeavours. In view of the financial constraints, Atheist Centre is not in a position to meet your travel. The Conference Registration fee is US$100, which includes accommodation and food arrangements at Atheist Centre. Closer to the Conference venue, a good number of hotels are also available in Vijayawada city. Nearest International Airport is Hyderabad and Vijayawada is connected by domestic flights from Hyderabad as well as Chennai. Vijayawada is the biggest railway junction in South India and all major trains pass through Vijayawada from many major cities. Those who cannot personally come and participate in the Conference are requested to become “Non-participating delegates” by contributing US$100 to show your solidarity with the cause. They will receive the conference material including the Conference Souvenir. We are looking forward for your participation in the Conference to share your valuable thoughts. With kind regards, Vijayam Executive Director, Atheist Centre
