The IHEU General Assembly in London in June 2009 will vote on new Bylaws proposed by the Executive Committee.

The need for a revision of Bylaws has been apparent for some time, and the General Assembly in Turin in 2007 decided to prepare a major revision for the GA this year. The draft has been developed by a working group, and many of the changes have been discussed at Executive Committee meetings. A draft was sent to all Member Organizations in November, and based on the feedback received the EC made some final adjustments.

The proposed new Bylaws have now been sent to all Member Organizations in preparation for the General Assembly.

One of the goals of the Bylaws revision is to give national Member Organizations from developing countries more influence at the General Assembly. Additionally, many other changes were called for, and the proposed new Bylaws and Internal Rules are in many ways different from the previous ones. However, most of these changes are updates of a kind that is necessary to bring the Bylaws and Internal Rules in line with current IHEU practice, with English law and with good business practice.
