Please act now to ask the Iranian government to stop the execution of Ehsan Fattahian scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, 2009.
According to Mina Ahadi, Chair of the Central Council of ex-Muslims, and Michael Schmidt-Salomon, Chair of the Giordano Bruno Foundation, both in Germany, Fattahian is accused of “apostasy” among other charges. Capital punishment for apostasy, or in any way making it a crime to leave a religion, contravenes Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Dr. Schmidt-Salomon pointed out that “the German Government has supported several people who converted from Islam to Christianity. It is now time that it also supports apostates who became free of all religion!”
Ask your own government to protest this planned execution and also write directly to the Iranian government. Information on this case and whom to write to can be found on the Amnesty International website at: http://bit.ly/njZS3
Please note that the date of execution has been moved up since this Amnesty report was written. Ehsan Fattahian is scheduled for execution on Wednesday, November 11. Other colleagues of Fattahian are expected to be executed in the following days.
