Take your board for a planning weekend

All management boards can benefit from long-range planning sessions, where leaders can step back from day-to-day operations to envision long-term goals and develop the strategy to achieve them. Such planning sessions are often done as part of a “board retreat” far from the office, where leaders are not only able to focus on the “big picture” but also get to know each other better, with time set aside for team building and social activities. For example, the IHEU Executive Committee, with volunteer members from five different countries, comes together for a three day long retreat every year.

Now, the venue used by the IHEU for some of its retreat meetings is being made available to other Humanist organizations at a discounted price. The Château de Béduer is an exclusive private castle, in southern France, two hours from Toulouse and less than six hours from Paris. The Château has hosted several other Humanist meetings as well as a Humanist wedding.

The Château is owned by former IHEU president Roy Brown, who made it available to the IHEU for its annual strategy session. The venue proved ideal for extended planning meetings, with its wide variety of rooms for meetings, break-out sessions and seminars. When taking a break from formal business, the extensive grounds and surrounding villages provide plenty of recreational opportunities.
