The International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) is calling for Sweden to provide asylum to Khalid Saeed, a Pakistani atheist and apostate from Islam who fled his homeland to live in Sweden. Khalid’s initial request for asylum was rejected by Swedish authorities because they did not accept that his outspoken atheism had made it unsafe for him and his family in Pakistan.
Khalid is now in hiding in Sweden with his wife Asia and their three children Iman (10), Momin (6) and Rafay (4).
IHEU and the European Humanist Federation (EHF) have joined Humanisterna, their Swedish member organisation, in asking the Swedish authorities to reverse their decision. An English version of their letter may be read at http://www.iheu.org/let-khalid-saeed-stay-sweden. It highlights the very real threats to the life and liberty of atheists and apostates in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
There is a website with up-to-date news about his case at http://eticha.com/wearekhalid/
And there is a petition at: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/dont-deport-atheist-khalid-saeed-to-pakistan/.
We call upon Humanist and Freethought organizations to publicize Saeed’s case and to encourage their members to sign the petition.
