The National Federation of Atheists, Humanists and Secularists Students Association (AHS), United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland
Non-Prophet Week is a week where irreligious people raise money to aid charitable organizations. The week is held annually by the AHS, and 2013 will mark AHS’s fourth Non-Prophet Week. This year AHS has chosen to endorse the Against Malaria Foundation. The Against Malaria Foundation prevents the contraction of malaria through the distribution of mosquito nets. Each net can be delivered at the total cost of US$5.50; the distribution of mosquito nets prevents suffering in those who otherwise would of caught the disease and boost local economies by keeping people at work rather than off, ill.
Fundraising events are organized by AHS member societies. Events this year include a pub quiz hosted by The University of Southampton Atheist Society; a cream-egg eating battle between AHS President Rory Fenton and the British Humanist Association’s Webmaster Andrew West; and sponsored charity runs by AHS Secretary Ruth Haydock, Ian Scott and Milan Valášek.
AHS is hoping that Non-Prophet Week 2013 will be more creative and successful that previous Non-Prophet Weeks and show that you don’t have to be religious to be charitable. For more information or to place a donation please visit: http://nonprophetweek.org.uk/
