Pakistani Humanists to initiate project to counter Extremism

The project titled “Engaging Young People through Theatre and Media to Counter Extremism”, aims to To create a culture of equality, acceptability, and tolerance among youth for protecting them from falling into the trap of radicalization and countering extremism by accurate messaging. As part of the project, CDA will conduct 40 theatre performance in South Punjab at different educational institutions including Madrisahs (religious seminaries) engaging a total of 2,000 young people (aged 15 – 24 years) from November 2013 to October 2014. For this, CDA will first develop a theatre play with accurate messages to counter extrimism through a five days

workshop. CDA will also equip 100 young people of South Punjab through four 5-days workshops on media skills including short film-making, photography and blogging and these young people will be encouraged to further highlight the issues of young people of their localities while countering extremism. CDA will also sensitize 50 journalists to effectively report on youth issues particularly related to their involvement in extremist activities.
