Conference West Africa, 20-21 December 2014, Ghana: see the video’s!

Around 50 participants came for the West African Conference under the theme “African Youth for science and reason”. The first day focused through speeches and discussions on:

  • Communicable diseases (Ebola, etc), Health and Medicine in West Africa;
  • Science, Technology and Reason;
  • Witchcraft accusations in West Africa;
  • LGBT issues in West Africa and progress report;
  • Sex and Relationships as African atheists;
  • Feminism in Africa.

The Capacity Building training planned for the second day with workshops, touched on subjects like:

  • Social Media and its reaching out;
  • Humanist ceremonies;
  • Activism and Legal requirements;
  • Human rights and the labor laws.

It was also an event for African Humanists to interact, share ideas and to plan for next year’s activities. Topics were interesting and Delegates were as informative and and enjoyed the conference as well with the attentive audiences present.

The financial support for this event came from Hivos, the Dutch humanist development agency, as part of a three year programme to keep fostering and building international and regional collaboration among humanist youth organizations in Africa and Asia.
