Online and live, from Italy to Guatemala and beyond, Humanism worldwide is growing faster than ever – “and there is more on the way” says Giovanni Gaetani, IHEU Growth & Development Officer.

The last three months of IHEU’s calendar have been intense. On 2 May was the pilot event of ¿Qué pasa, Humanista?, a live-streamed web discussion with participation of humanist friends from across Latin America. You can watch again the live-stream (with English subtitles) on the IHEU Facebook page or by clicking the preview below.

On 16 June we held the very first Café Humaniste in Milan, on the topical and controversial theme: “What we talk about when we talk about vaccination?” – you can watch the whole live streaming on the YouTube channel of the IHEU. Photos from the event are on the IHEU Facebook page.

On 8 July the Café Humaniste project flew to Gautemala for the second event of the series, this time on the theme “Mind Games. Illusionism and beliefs“. As you can see from the photos below, the event has been organised by the IHEU and Humanistas Guatemala, with the participation of mentalist Roberto Rimola who performed some illusions with the help of the public, then later revealed his tricks and explained what psychological dynamics brought the public to believe in those illusions. You can also watch the live streaming of the event on the Facebook page of Humanistas Guatemala or clicking the preview below.

The guests of this episode were Helmut Kessel, President of the Secular Humanist Society of Peru which recently became a Member Organization of IHEU, and Daniel Duarte, President of the Paraguayan Rationalist Association (APRA). The live streaming of the event can be seen by clicking on the preview below.

Following the second episode of the ¿Qué pasa, Humanista? Giovanni Gaetani, IHEU Growth and Development Officer, said:

It is amazing to see how the Humanist community worldwide is connecting and cooperating together thanks to the new projects of the IHEU – and this is even more amazing if you realise that we are only just beginning to implement our new Growth and Development plan. Indeed we are working hard to launch other projects by the end of the year which will consolidate and expand these connections.

I am also looking forward to meet many humanist friends from all over the world next month in London in occasion of IHEU General Assembly. A crucial moment will be the Friday Regional Networking Meetings: during these meetings people from three specific world regions (Latin America, Africa, Asia) will have the chance to meet with other humanists from their same region in order to present each other and to discuss together their common challenges.

Get involved

The IHEU is inviting Member Organizations to apply for a grant to host a Café Humaniste event. The IHEU will provide financial and media support while the local organization will manage the logistics for the event itself. Check out the guide and send us your proposal and ideas at [email protected]!
