Giovanni Gaetani is to step down as Membership Engagement Manager after five years in his post.

During his time at Humanists International, Giovanni led on the development of its ‘growth and development’ work, finding new and creative ways to support activists and organizations around the world. As a philosopher, he also made frequent serious contributions to the humanist movement through his many lectures, books, and papers.

After half a decade of organizing the growth and development work of Humanists International, Giovanni will be stepping down from his role. Giovanni’s role will be replaced by two new roles: a Fundraising & Development Manager, and a Membership Development Officer. Recruitment is ongoing and Humanists International hopes the new staff will be in post soon. Javan Lev Poblador will assume responsibility for the growth and development program in the meantime, as Acting Membership Development Officer.

Commenting on his time with Humanists International, Giovanni said:

“The last five years at Humanists International have been an incredible journey for me and I’m full of gratitude for this. I met hundreds of like-minded humanists all around the world, learnt many new things, grew up personally and professionally – and sometimes I even enjoyed the rare privilege of seeing the positive impact of our efforts in someone else’s life.

“I want to thank all my wonderful colleagues, the amazing members of the Board, and our incredible members and supporters across the globe for their help and encouragement all along these years. Working so closely with such a global network of passionate activists is a true privilege: I’m happy and honoured that I had this chance in my life.

“I leave knowing that we will all keep fighting for people like Mubarak, Rishvin and Raif until they will be free like our fellow humanists Mahmoud, Gulalai and Hisham; that Humanists International will keep supporting humanist organizations and individuals all around the world so that our shared values will flourish; and that the global humanist community will never resign to the appalling nihilism of our time: with reason, empathy and cooperation we can make the world a better place, for everyone, everywhere.”

Gary McLelland, Chief Executive of Humanists International

Wishing Giovanni well for the future, Gary McLelland, Chief Executive of Humanists International, said:

“Giovanni has made an enormous contribution to the humanist movement during his time at Humanists International. His stewardship of our modest resources to target support and help to activists and organizations which needed it most has motivated a wave of progressive change that will continue for many years.

“Giovanni leaves with my profound gratitude, and that of all the staff and the Board at Humanists International, and our members and associates around the world. I’m sure that Giovanni will continue to achieve great success in his career.”
