The Romanian Secular-Humanist Association (ASUR), a Member of Humanists International, launched the ScienceCalendar as a mobile app. The Scientific Calendar project expands, providing users with quick and easy access to information about important scientific discoveries.

Initiated in Romania in 2010, the Scientific Calendar has become an annual tradition for ASUR, and has been replicated and adapted by humanist organizations from Scotland, Spain, and Poland. The project aimed to popularize information about significant scientific discoveries.

The app provides a fun and educational experience by showcasing a different scientific discovery each day in a format that is easy to understand. ASUR aims to make science more accessible and interesting to the public through this interactive app.

Monica Belițoiu, the coordinator of the Scientific Calendar project, commented:

“We are pleased to announce the launch of the ScienceCalendar app, a significant step in our efforts to bring science closer to the wider public. With content available in both Romanian and English, we aim to provide access to scientific information to a diverse audience. The app is free and will be continuously improved to offer an even richer experience. We hope in the years to come we will be able to make the content available in other languages and we count on the support of our fellow humanists around the world to achieve this goal.”

Developed by Gabriela Truțan, a member and volunteer of ASUR, the ScienceCalendar app became a mobile extension of the ASUR project, strengthening the connection between science and the public.

ASUR has previously released 14 printed editions of the Scientific Calendar, distributed for free to schools across the country. The 2024 edition focused on the theme “Artificial Intelligence Development,” providing detailed information about the history and impact of this revolutionary technology.

Information from the Scientific Calendar is also available online, in Romanian, at www.calendarstiintific.ro, offering interesting articles about scientific discoveries, as well as worksheets for students inspired by the calendar.
