Through the support of the 2023 Grants Program from Humanists International, Humanists Libya has once again made a mark in Libya by rebuilding the organization and undertaking new projects to promote humanism.
After facing many political challenges in the past, the movement has restored its activities, including holding workshops, launching a website, and establishing connections with other humanist organizations across the Middle East and North Africa region.
The organization has also been able to extend crucial support to individuals facing persecution in Libya, including assisting in resettling cases of freedom of expression and LGBTI+ rights. Notably, Humanists Libya has played a pivotal role in advocating for and providing assistance to those in need, facilitating the safe resettlement of individuals who were targeted for their beliefs or identities.
Through dedicated efforts, the organization has helped navigate the complex legal and logistical challenges involved in relocating these individuals to safer environments outside of Libya.
Humanists Libya, emphasized:
“Our project was based on reactivating Humanists Libya. Thanks to funding, the movement has returned to activity again and is still performing its tasks [after many challenges]. The movement is now trying to take a step to ensure its continuation independently. Although the movement always needs more support.”
Javan Lev Poblador, Membership Development Officer of Humanists International, added:
“It’s incredibly heartening to see Humanists Libya reclaiming its foothold in promoting humanism and championing fundamental rights in Libya. The resilience they have shown in the face of political adversity is truly commendable.
