Roy Brown has been elected unopposed as IHEU President for a three-year term by the IHEU General Assembly meeting in Washington DC in May.
Thanking the General Assembly for the confidence placed in him, and assuring it of his total commitment to IHEU’s goals and objectives, Roy Brown paid tribute to out-going President Levi Fragell, both for his leadership of IHEU and for his contribution to International Humanism. Levi Fragell will continue his involvement with IHEU as Chair of IHEU’s Growth and Development Committee.
In his acceptance speech Roy Brown outlined his vision and priorities for IHEU in the coming years: “My primary task in the years ahead will be to strengthen the organisation of IHEU so that we are better able to serve and support our member organisations in their work. We plan to re-launch the development fund for Africa, Asia and the Middle East and I would like to encourage all of you to take a hand in supporting smaller, poorer but no less committed humanist organisations in developing countries. In the coming years IHEU will work to achieve a higher profile in the media, with governments, and in public awareness on issues of separation of religion and state, in support of the victims of persecution, and to defend and promote the principles of Humanism.”
