Peace campaigner and human rights defender Gulalai Ismail has been granted further bail today ahead of a hearing on 30 October.
On 30 October the High Court in Islamabad will hear arguments about why Gulalai’s name should be removed from the ‘exit control list’ (banning her from travelling) and have her passport returned.

Gulalai was detained in Islamabad airport on 12 October after returning from the United Kingdom. Her human rights activism has been wrongly reported by some as ‘anti-state activities’, leading to a series of legal challenges.
Speaking after the bail hearing, Gulalai said:
“This good news is the first step in me clearing my name of these wrongful allegations.
“Thank you to all my friends and colleagues around the world for their support, I am very grateful. I hope you will continue to help me raise my voice for peace and justice as I fight these charges.”
IHEU President, Andrew Copson, commented:
“Over 2000 people have signed our petition calling for Gulalai to have her passport and right to travel returned.
“We have to keep the momentum going, and build the pressure on the Pakistan authorities to do the right thing.”
