Humanists International is delighted to announce that registration is now officially open for the 2026 World Humanist Congress, taking place from 7 to 9 August 2026 in Ottawa, Canada. Hosted in partnership with Humanist Canada, this landmark global gathering will bring together humanists, atheists, freethinkers, and allies from every region of the world for three days of inspiration, collaboration, and community.

The response so far has been extraordinary. In the first two weeks alone, more than 100 people from around the world have already registered, demonstrating the global momentum and anticipation for this historic event.

A Congress Defined by Its Theme: Humanism as Resistance

The 2026 Congress centres on a timely and powerful theme: “Humanism as Resistance.” In a world where human rights, democracy, and open societies are under renewed pressure, the Congress will explore how humanist values can be transformed into meaningful action. Delegates will take part in a dynamic programme of talks, discussions, workshops, and cultural events designed to connect ideas to real-world strategies for dignity, justice, and freedom.

President of Humanist Canada Martin Frith captures the spirit of the event:

“When humanists meet, ideas come alive. The 2026 World Humanist Congress will bring together voices from every corner of the globe to listen, learn, and build a future grounded in compassion, reason, and shared humanity. It is an open invitation to help shape that future and you will not want to miss it.”

A Global Gathering for a Global Movement

The World Humanist Congress is a rare opportunity for our international community to come together in one place. It is a chance to connect with fellow humanists, deepen your understanding of global issues, and take part in shaping our collective future. Whether you are a seasoned activist or someone newly exploring humanism, the Congress offers a welcoming space to learn, reflect, and grow.

Maggie Ardiente, President of Humanists International, highlights the importance of this moment:

“At a time of profound global challenges, the humanist movement’s commitment to reason, compassion and human rights has never mattered more. As this will be my first World Humanist Congress as President, I look forward to meeting humanists from every part of the world in Ottawa as we chart the next chapter together.”
