This project protects individuals falsely accused of witchcraft, supports
survivors, and prevents future accusations through rapid intervention, legal aid, and
community education in Nigeria. Trained responders will engage local leaders and law
enforcement to prevent violence, while survivors are provided medical, psychosocial, and
material support alongside legal representation. Additionally, the project will conduct
community dialogues, stakeholder trainings, and radio broadcasts to promote
evidence-based explanations for illness or misfortune and challenge harmful superstitions.
Problem/Issue: False witchcraft accusations driven by fear, superstition, and a lack of
scientific literacy frequently target vulnerable individuals, leading to severe human rights
violations such as mob violence, torture, displacement, and extrajudicial killings.
No. of Beneficiaries: 5,000
Impact: The project will directly protect at least 20 victims through legal, medical,
and psychosocial aid while reaching over 50,000 people via community dialogues, trainings,
and radio campaigns to foster evidence-based understanding and peaceful conflict
resolution.
