Recalling the Humanists International General Assembly Resolution on Democracy passed at the World Humanist Congress in 2023, and the importance to Humanists of upholding democratic principles;
Noting the Venezuelan elections which took place on 28 July 2024;
Expressing concern at the lack of transparency at the outcome of the elections, given the lack of documentation proving the results of election and the disregard of the calls from national and international actors to do so;
Noting the concerns of international human rights and elections monitors, including the Organization of American States, United Nations Experts, and other governments, which have called the elections neither free nor fair, and rejected the certification of the election by Venezuela’s Supreme Court;
Condemning the persecution of opposition political candidates and protestors;
Noting that the situation in Venezuela is one of concern to Humanists, given the apparent disregard for the democratic will of the people;
