Here we provide some resources suitable for Members and Associates — free to read, download or use.

Membership Guides

Humanists International created a 2-part guide to help humanist organisations at various levels, providing them advice, tips, and practical examples coming from our Members and Associates.

The first section of the guide is “How to start a Humanist organisation”. The aim is to support groups that are new and upcoming, which may include be unconstituted or informal groups, to take the first steps necessary to get organised, know what they’re doing, and know where they want to go!

The second section of the guide is “How to run a Humanist organisation”. This time the aim is to provide an overview of the various kinds of humanist organisation, and the various different areas of work they may focus on, as a means to achieving their goals. At the same time, this section provides some tips and advice to efficiently run your humanist organisations, regardless of its scope and specific focus.

UPR Briefing

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a United Nations process that allows organisations such as yours to help hold your Government to account on their human rights obligations.

As the only international mechanism to address all countries and all human rights, the UPR encourages engagement from civil society to help examine the situation for human rights in each country every four years.

Using our briefing, Humanists International Members and Associates can make submissions on their own country into this process and make sure the concerns of humanists are on the international human rights agenda.

Twinning Programme

Humanists International will link older, more established Member Organisations (Branch partners) with newer and developing Member Organisations (Root partners) in “twinning” arrangements that will benefit the organisations with some or all of:

  • knowledge or skills transfer
  • formal training
  • delivery of work
  • grant-funding
  • fundraising opportunities
  • or increased profile.
