‘Altruistic’ is a record & publishing label that has recently been launched by Humanists Australia to bring music, colour and appeal to the humanist movement. They describe their purpose as helping to popularize humanism.
The concept has been designed by a team of individuals with music industry backgrounds who have the knowledge, skill, experience and resources to help in the development of up and coming artists and create opportunities for them. They also write and produce their own songs and videos around humanist themes.
The team is actively searching for artists whose works are humanist aligned and they are also encouraging artistic people in general to produce material around humanist themes. Their ultimate goal is to form an entire creative humanist industry, a vibrant hub where like minded artists of all kinds can connect and collaborate. There has for a long time been a thriving christian music and film industry and they see absolutely no reason why a similar scene couldn’t be built around the humanist worldview.
Music and art is something that may be currently lacking within the humanist movement and ‘Altruistic’ is aiming to remedy that. They see establishing a humanist record and publishing label as an exciting and worthwhile endeavour that could be of great value to the humanist movement.
Music has the power to transcend barriers, art is a medium that can connect with people on an intellectual level via the emotions and the ‘Altruistic’ philosophy is that the combined arts have the potential to cross over into the mainstream to help spread the humanist message.
The inspiration for ‘Altruistic’ comes from the declaration of modern humanism where it says:
“We [therefore] treasure artistic creativity and imagination and recognise the transforming power of literature, music, and the visual and performing arts.”
