2023 General Assembly & World Humanist Congress

The 2023 World Humanist Congress will be held in Copenhagen from Thursday 3rd August to Sunday 6th of August 2023. This 4-day event will feature a range of cultural and intellectual experiences, bringing together humanists from all over the world.

To assist delegates with the carious Congress events, and other General Assembly events, we have created a Consolidate Agenda available here (pdf)This document may be updated from time to time, so it is useful to check it regularly.

The Congress is organized by the Danish Humanist Society (Humanistisk Samfund) in collaboration with other Nordic humanist organizations:

The 2023 General Assembly will be held around the World Humanist Congress. The General Assembly brings together representatives of Humanists International Member Organizations from all over the world to form the democratic governing body of the humanist movement.

Administration for the Humanists International General Assembly

This information is very important, and all Member and Associate delegates should read it carefully.

The 2023 General Assembly will be an in-person event. There will be no hybrid or remote participation. Voting will only be possible by authorized delegates who are present at the meeting in Copenhagen. All the business of the General Assembly is government by our bylaws: humanists.international/resource/bylaws/

Please email agenda items to [email protected] in the first instance.

This includes for:

  • Registration of all delegates to the General Assembly
  • Nomination of representatives (i.e. voting delegates) to the General Assembly

Members (but not Associates) who are unable to attend can appoint a proxy (who cannot be a Board member of Humanists International). To appoint a proxy you must complete the form and return it to the office. Please refer to the bylaws for more details on appointing a proxy. Proxy Nomination Form 2023

Board member elections

These are the available positions on the Humanists International Board:

  1. Vice President,
  2. President of Young Humanists International,
  3. Board member (restricted to candidates from Asia), and,
  4. Board member (x3).

Nominations for the Distinguished Services to Humanism Award

Every year the Board accepts nominations for the Distinguished Services to Humanism Award. You can read more about previous award recipients on the awards section of our website.

Deadline for agenda and papers to be made available to all Member Organizations
Friday 30 June 2023
We will send the papers to all registered delegates.

Travel Grants Programme

Eligible Humanists International Member Organizations can apply for grants to cover some of the costs associated with sending representatives to the General Assembly. Please see:

Venue and Accommodation

The venue of program activities will take place at the Scandic Copenhagen Hotel. The World Humanist Congress organizers have set up a Portal to help delegates find suitable accommodation near the venue. Please visit: whc2023.com/hotel

COVID-19 regulations on entering Denmark and during program activities

According to en.coronasmitte.dk/travel-rules/covidtravelrules, there are no covid-19 related restrictions on entry to Denmark.

General covid-19 restrictions no longer apply in Denmark. However, onboard airplanes, you may be met with requirements regarding covid-19 certificate, and when visiting homes for the elderly, social institutions, and hospitals you may be met with requirements regarding face masks.


 

World Humanist Congress program

• 31 July, Monday to 3 August, Thursday: Social activities in Copenhagen and at our community house. Read more about the social program here.

• 3 August, Thursday: Humanist International General Assembly (for appointed delegates only – separate registration. Register here  

• 3 August, Thursday: Optional European Humanist Professionals workshops: Ceremonies, education, chaplaincy (separate registration at a later date) Read more

• 4 August, Friday: Congress opening. Plenary sessions and two six-part breakout sessions on different topics.

• 5 August, Saturday: Congress continues with plenaries and two six-part breakout sessions on different topics. In the evening: Congress dinner and awards.

• 6 August, Sunday: Congress closes with three plenary sessions.

• 6 August, Sunday: Humanist International General Assembly part 2 from 14:00. (for appointed delegates only – separate registration)
